The Tournament: What to expect...

by Rich Johnson on August 2nd, 2010

We've had a lot of people say that they are nervous about playing in a live poker tournament. I thought I should talk about what to expect in a tournament and try to put your mind at rest.

Online Registration

This is so that we have a fairly accurate figure of players wishing to take part. All you have to do is give us your name, email address and let us know that you are over 18 (for gambling purposes).

Post Online Registration

We'll email you a few times to see if we can gently persuade you to invite your friends and colleagues to sign-up. There will also be a few reminder emails leading up to the event.

On arrival to the Loose Cannon Club

Once you arrive just come on in. The whole venue is for Byte Poker. You'll be offered a complimentary drink and are free to have a wander around. This venue is very nice (have a look at the 360 video).

Tournament registration

You'll need to register with the tournament director and pay your entrance fee. This involves you giving your name and handing over some cash (remember this is a charity event!). You'll either be given a card or told a table number. This will be the poker table that you will start on. If you do really well you might see a few different tables (we'll join tables together as people get knocked out).

Speeches and various promotional stuff

No charity event would be complete without a speech or two. Several companies will have donated prizes as well so we'll give them a mention and tell you what the final selection of prize are.

Tournament start: Shuffle up and deal!

The tournament director (the chap who's responsibility it is to make sure the event runs smoothly) will ask everyone to take their seats at the correct tables. Unfortunately you can't choose where to sit, it's not fair if you get a bunch of friends all working together against other players. Once everyone has taken their seat the tournament will begin.

We haven't confirmed what the exact blinds or time levels yet as this will be up to the tournament director. As soon as we find out we'll post it here for you.
